ボストンSAKURAキッズについて
About Us
On March 14, 2020, schools began closing across Massachusetts as the state started entering lockdown. As children started distance learning, they lost valuable opportunities to bond with peers, strengthen their academics, and enhance their soft skills. For English Language Learners, they lost the chance to immerse themselves in their second language, a critical factor in improving their conversation skills. Students at our Japanese Language School lost the authentic Japanese environment that kept them connected with their culture.
To address these three needs — the need for structure, English language learning, and Japanese culture interaction — Yurika Tarui and Karina Peak founded Boston SAKURA Kids.
Boston SAKURA Kids’ mission is to provide children in the Greater Boston area with the opportunity to learn English and Japanese language and culture through interactive virtual activities to foster cultural understanding, diversity, and appreciation. Through age-appropriate storytelling, physical activity, and games, Boston SAKURA Kids aims to create a fun environment for children to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our program, which is run by middle and high school students, aims to connect these mentors with younger children to foster a supportive, connected Japanese community.
